The celebration of birthdays, a ubiquitous and enduring cultural phenomenon across the globe, warrants rigorous academic scrutiny, particularly within the framework of foreign language acquisition and intercultural competence. Its pervasive nature, manifested in diverse rituals, linguistic expressions, and social interactions, positions it as an invaluable heuristic for understanding the interplay between language, culture, and individual identity. In an increasingly globalized world, where cross-cultural communication is paramount, comprehending the nuances of such universal yet culturally specific events becomes a critical skill. The study of birthday celebrations through the lens of a foreign language, specifically English, offers a unique opportunity to explore not only the lexical and grammatical structures associated with expressing felicitations, gift-giving, and social gatherings, but also the deeper socio-pragmatic and ethnolinguistic dimensions embedded within these practices. Furthermore, the commercialization and media representation of birthdays in contemporary society, often disseminated through the lingua franca of English, underscore its continued relevance as a site of linguistic and cultural production and consumption, making it a compelling subject for interdisciplinary research that bridges linguistics, sociology, anthropology, and education.
